Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Alice asks the grinning Cheshire Cat for directions — and gets none.

The Cat only grinned when it saw Alice. It looked good-natured, she thought; still it had very long claws and a great many teeth, so she felt it ought to be treated with respect.

Cheshire Puss, would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?

Cheshire CatSnikSly

That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.

I don't much care where—

Cheshire CatSnikSly

Then it doesn't matter which way you go.

—so long as I get somewhere.

Cheshire CatSnikSly

Oh, you're sure to do that, if you only walk long enough.

Step-by-step guide

How to make a xianxia audiobook with AI

From cleaned chapters to a full sect of voices. Free to start, nothing to install.

  1. Clean and upload

Upload a DRM-free TXT, EPUB or DOCX. Headings like “Chapter 12” or “第十二章” become chapters; strip translator notes and site banners first.
  2. Respell the names

Write pinyin names, titles and technique names the way they should sound in the copy you upload, and keep a glossary for the whole serial.
  3. Cast the sect

Ancestors and elders, the protagonist, rivals, juniors and beasts: cast by rank and faction so every voice in the xianxia audiobook says where a character stands.
  4. Generate arc by arc

Generate the xianxia audiobook an arc at a time, export an M4B with chapter markers or a file per chapter, and add the next arc to the same cast.

Features & capabilities

What you get, from manuscript to finished audiobook.

  • Hundreds of named characters

Speaker detection lists everyone who talks; give the recurring cast their own voices and let the crowd at the sect trial share a few.
  • Pinyin said your way

Respell names like Xu Qingyun as Shoo Ching-yoon in the copy you upload, and every voice reads the same spelling.
  • Rank you can hear

Ancestors slow and heavy, elders dry, senior brothers confident, juniors bright: the sect's hierarchy carried by casting.
  • A glossary for realms and techniques

Settle how Foundation Establishment, Nascent Soul and your own technique names are read before chapter one, then keep it.
  • Chinese originals too

The text language is detected automatically, and 第X章 headings split a Chinese TXT into chapters. English works best, so try one chapter first.
  • One cast for 1,000 chapters

The cast is saved with the project, so chapter 600 of your xianxia audiobook adds new faces without losing old voices.

Use cases

What can you make with Xianxia Audiobook?

Where authors and storytellers put it to work.

  • Xianxia and cultivation

A xianxia audiobook of sects, realms, breakthroughs and heavenly tribulations, with a voice for every elder and every rival.
  • Wuxia

A wuxia audiobook of martial clans and wandering swordsmen: fewer immortals, more grudges, and weathered voices.
  • Your licensed translation

Translating a Chinese web novel with the rights holder's permission? Clean the chapters and keep the translated titles consistent.
  • Original English cultivation

Writing in the genre yourself: keep your naming system consistent and your glossary next to the manuscript.

Example voices for a sect

Ancients and elders, young heroes and rivals, demonic cultivators and beasts. Demo performances; in the studio you cast from standard and premium voice lists.

In depth

Why cultivation novels suit a full cast

A xianxia audiobook asks more of a cast than almost any other genre. A cultivation novel can run to hundreds or thousands of chapters, and its world is a hierarchy: ancestors and sect masters at the top, elders and senior brothers below them, outer disciples at the bottom, with rival sects, demonic cultivators and spirit beasts all around. Every one of them talks, and the listener needs to hear rank and faction as well as who's speaking.

FullCastBook gives each speaking character a voice and keeps a narrator for the prose. It finds the chapters, detects the speakers and lets you cast them, so a sect council in your cultivation novel audiobook sounds like a hall full of elders, not one narrator changing pitch. This page covers what's particular to cultivation novels; for serial release schedules in general, see web novel to audiobook.

Pinyin names, sect titles and honorifics

English voices often misread pinyin, and in a xianxia audiobook the names come every few lines. Q, X, Zh and C don't sound the way an English reader expects, so Qin can come out as “kwin” and Xiao as “zee-ow”. FullCastBook has no pronunciation dictionary, so respell names in the copy you upload: Xu Qingyun as Shoo Ching-yoon, Zhao as Jow, Cui as Tsway, Qi as Chee. Hyphenate syllables, test each name on one line, and keep the spelling identical in every chapter.

Titles need one decision for the whole serial: translate them or keep the pinyin. Senior Brother, Junior Sister, Elder and Sect Master read cleanly in English; shixiong, shimei and shizun need respelling, such as shr-shyong, shr-may and shr-dzun, every time they appear. Mixing the two confuses listeners, so pick one convention and search-and-replace the manuscript before you upload.

Realms, techniques and treasures: a glossary for consistent reading

Cultivation stages are the genre's vocabulary: Qi Condensation, Foundation Establishment, Core Formation, Nascent Soul. Most translations use English terms, which voices read well; if yours keeps the pinyin, respell it. Technique, treasure and pill names are the bigger risk, because they're invented, long and repeated hundreds of times. Keep a glossary of each term and its respelling, and apply it to every chapter before upload, so the xianxia audiobook reads the same from the first realm to the last.

Directions add the genre's drama without touching the text: [shouting, voice echoing] for a technique called out mid-battle, [cold, contemptuous] for the young master who just insulted the protagonist, [slow, ancient] for the old ghost speaking from inside a ring. Use them at turning points, not on every line.

Casting a sect: masters, disciples, rivals, beasts

Cast a xianxia audiobook by rank. The hidden ancestor takes the oldest, slowest voice you have; sect masters and elders get weight and dryness; senior brothers and sisters sound confident; juniors sound bright. The protagonist starts young and must stay recognizable while rising through ten realms, so choose a voice that can carry calm power as well as youth. Rival young masters need arrogance that's distinct from the hero's confidence, and demonic cultivators get the most unsettling voices in the studio's lists.

Then let each sect sound like itself: one sect's elders measured and formal, the rival sect's disciples sharper and louder, so even a new speaker tells the listener whose side they're on. Spirit beasts take the deepest or strangest voices, with any echo or reverb added afterwards in an audio editor.

Sample: a sect hall scene (original text)

A scene we wrote for this page. In the manuscript the names are Xu Qingyun, Elder Mo and Young Master Zhao; in the uploaded copy they're respelled, so every voice says them the same way.

Narrator, a steady storyteller: [even, unhurried] The hall fell silent when the outer disciple stepped forward. Elder Moh, an older, dry voice: [cold, unimpressed] “Shoo Ching-yoon. Foundation Establishment at nineteen. You expect us to believe that?”

Young Master Jow, a sharp, arrogant voice: [laughing, contemptuous] “He bought a pill. Everyone knows it.” Shoo Ching-yoon, a young, level voice: [calm, not rising to it] “Then test me, Elder.”

Four voices, four short directions, and nobody shouts. In a cultivation novel, the quietest voice in the hall is usually the most dangerous one.

Translated web novels: cleaning chapters before import

Translated chapters arrive with clutter that readers skip and listeners can't: translator notes, footnote markers, site banners, “support the translation” lines, glossary links and chapter-end polls. Strip them before upload. FullCastBook splits plain text at chapter headings such as “Chapter 312” or “第三百一十二章”, and the heading is read aloud, so keep one clean, consistent heading line per chapter.

Chinese originals have their own clutter: author's notes asking for monthly votes, placeholder chapters posted against piracy and replaced later, and side stories. Remove the notes and placeholders; side stories headed 番外 become chapters of their own. For more on Chinese web novel audiobook sources in general, the web novel page covers serial publishing.

Hundreds of chapters, one cast

Cultivation audiobooks are rarely one book; they're serials. Start one project for the cultivation novel audiobook, generate an arc at a time, and add the next chapters to the same cast, so the protagonist at chapter 800 sounds like the one at chapter 1. New characters are detected and cast as they appear. Credits are counted by the characters voiced, so a long serial costs in proportion to its length; the audiobook cost calculator gives a per-arc estimate.

Status screens and system messages belong more to LitRPG than to xianxia, but if your novel has them, the LitRPG audiobook guide covers giving the System its own voice.

Rights: your own novel or a translation you're licensed to voice

FullCastBook is for text you wrote or have the rights to. A translated Chinese web novel carries two sets of rights: the original author's, often held or managed by the platform that published it, and the translator's. An audiobook needs permission for both, even when the chapters are free to read online. Your own original cultivation novel, or your own translation of a novel you've licensed, is yours to voice; check each store's policy before you sell, as ACX currently requires human narration unless otherwise authorized.

FAQ

Xianxia Audiobook: FAQ

Something not covered here? Email us at support@fullcastbook.com

Can AI pronounce Chinese names in a xianxia novel?

Not reliably from pinyin, because letters like Q, X and Zh don't follow English rules. Respell each name the way it should sound in the copy you upload, such as Shoo Ching-yoon for Xu Qingyun, and test it on one line.

Can I make an audiobook of a translated web novel?

Only with permission from the original rights holder and from the translator. Your own original novel, or a translation you're licensed to voice, is fine.

How do I keep a character's voice the same across 500 chapters?

Keep the whole xianxia audiobook in one project and add new chapters to it. Returning characters keep the voices you set; only new arrivals need casting.

Can it read the Chinese original?

The text language is detected automatically, and headings like 第一章 split a Chinese TXT into chapters. English works best today, so generate one chapter of a Chinese book and listen before you commit.

Xianxia vs wuxia: does the casting differ?

Yes. Xianxia is about cultivation and immortality, with ancients, sects and spirit beasts, so it needs voices from youthful to ancient. A wuxia audiobook is grounded martial arts, with clans and wandering swordsmen, and suits weathered, human voices.

How long is a xianxia audiobook?

Long. By our arithmetic at 155 words a minute, a 2,500-word chapter runs about 16 minutes, so 500 chapters come to roughly 134 hours. Generate an arc at a time, and see the plans for a serial that size.
