Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Alice asks the grinning Cheshire Cat for directions — and gets none.
The Cat only grinned when it saw Alice. It looked good-natured, she thought; still it had very long claws and a great many teeth, so she felt it ought to be treated with respect.

In depth
Fanfiction to audiobook means taking a fic, usually long and dialogue-heavy, and turning it into something you can listen to on a walk, a commute or a late night. Most people start with a read-aloud app and find it reads every character in the same voice. FullCastBook does the opposite: it detects who is speaking on every line and gives each character their own voice, with a narrator for everything in between.
It works with fics from any archive and any fandom. Paste a single chapter to try it, or upload the whole thing as an EPUB or TXT. If your fic lives on AO3, the AO3 to audiobook guide covers the download and posting side in detail.
Ordinary fanfic TTS reads text in order and has no idea that the line in quotes belongs to a different person from the line before it. FullCastBook reads the chapter the way a beta reader would: dialogue tags such as "he said", the flow of a conversation and the names in the scene decide who gets each line.
Fics lean on things canon readers already know: nicknames, surnames used in anger, a character referred to by their title. Detection handles most of it, but it is a first pass. Skim the busiest scenes, fix any line given to the wrong person, and the rest of the fic follows the cast you set.
Long fics are where fanfiction to audiobook pays off most, and where structure matters. Chapters come from the file's contents or headings, and you generate them one at a time, so you can start listening to chapter one while the rest waits. When a work in progress updates, add the new chapter to the same project; the characters you already cast keep their voices.
Many fics switch point of view by chapter, often in first person. The simplest approach is one neutral narrator for all the prose, with character voices only in dialogue. If you'd rather hear each POV character narrate their own chapters, reassign those narration lines to that character in the studio.
Author's notes, thank-yous and update schedules are written for readers, not listeners. Delete them before you paste, or remove those lines in the studio. Keep content warnings, though: a listener can't skim ahead the way a reader can, so hearing them at the top of the chapter matters.
Fanfiction text to speech from a phone, browser or e-reader is free and instant, and for a quick listen it's fine. It is also one voice for everything, with no idea where a scene changes, and it mispronounces the same invented name every single time.
A full-cast fanfiction audiobook takes a few minutes of setup: check the speakers, pick voices, add direction where a line needs it. In return the banter sounds like two people, a whispered confession sounds like a whisper, and you can export the result as an MP3 or an M4B with chapter markers to play in any audiobook or podcast app, offline.
Your own fic is yours to voice and share. Someone else's is different: posting a recording of it, AI-voiced or not, is a podfic, and podfic needs the author's permission. Check their profile or work notes for a blanket permission statement, otherwise ask, and say plainly that the voices are AI, since some authors who welcome podfic don't want an AI version. No reply means no. With a yes, label the audio as AI-voiced, credit and link the original, and keep it non-commercial. Even for private listening, skip authors who ask readers not to use AI tools. Who holds the audio rights to a book, and when you need them, is covered in audiobook rights.
For fanfiction to audiobook, pasting is quickest for a single chapter or a one-shot. For a multi-chapter fic, an EPUB keeps the chapter breaks; archives that offer downloads usually provide one, and a TXT works if each chapter starts with a clear heading. Files must be DRM-free. Wattpad writers have their own walkthrough in Wattpad to audiobook, and serial writers in web novel to audiobook.
Credits are counted by the characters voiced, so a long fic costs more than a one-shot. Check a fic's length in the audiobook cost calculator first, and browse more examples of full-cast audio.
Yes. Fanfiction to audiobook takes a few minutes: paste a chapter or upload the fic as an EPUB or TXT, check the detected speakers, pick a voice for each character and export MP3 or M4B. Your own fics are yours to voice and share; for someone else's, ask the author first.
Only with the author's permission. Sharing audio of a fic is a podfic, and archives such as AO3 require the creator's permission to post one. Tell the author the voices are AI, credit and link the original, and keep it non-commercial.
Yes. Cut them before you paste, or delete those lines in the studio before you generate. Many people keep content warnings voiced at the top of each chapter.
There's no special fanfic TTS mode for long works; they're handled the same way as novels: chapters are detected and you generate them one at a time. Credits are counted by the characters voiced, so check a long fic's cost in the audiobook cost calculator before you start.
Voices read many languages, and English works best today. Try one chapter in your fic's language before you voice the whole thing.
You get free credits when you sign up, with no card, which is enough to hear a short sample chapter with a full cast. Longer fics need a paid plan; see pricing.
