Wondercraft vs FullCastBook for audiobooks
If you're looking for a Wondercraft alternative for audiobooks, it helps to know what each tool is for. Wondercraft is a collaborative AI audio and video editor: audiobooks are one use case next to podcasts, ads and video, and its strength is the timeline. FullCastBook only makes audiobooks, and its strength is casting a whole book for you.
This comparison uses Wondercraft's audiobook page, pricing page and help center, checked on October 21, 2026. Where Wondercraft's pages don't mention something, we write "Not listed" instead of guessing.
What Wondercraft does well: timeline, music, cloning
Wondercraft wins on production tools. Its audiobook page describes importing an EPUB or PDF, cloning your own voice or any approved voice, and adding music and sound effects on a timeline editor, with comments for team review. It lists over 200 voices in more than 30 languages, and its help center offers professional voice cloning on Pro and Enterprise.
On rights, its audiobook page says the user who produces the book owns 100% of the rights, and its Creator plan lists no watermark and full commercial rights. If you want to narrate in your own cloned voice, or score the book with music, Wondercraft does things FullCastBook doesn't.
Casting characters: manual vs automatic
Wondercraft's help center explains how to use several speakers: put the speaker's name in square brackets before each line, as in [Speaker Name 1]: Some text here. Convo Mode supports two speakers, and Standard Mode supports any number. Its audiobook page talks about selecting a voice for your audiobook, and doesn't mention detecting characters automatically.
So a scene like this has to be labelled line by line before Wondercraft can voice it:
[Narrator]: Rain hammered the station roof. [Inspector Hale]: You were here at midnight. [Jonah]: I was asleep. Ask anyone.
In FullCastBook you upload the book as it is. Speakers are detected, each gets a distinct voice, and direction stays inside the line, as in JONAH: [nervous, too fast] I was asleep. Your job is to check the cast and fix the few lines that land on the wrong character, which matters most in a novel with hundreds of exchanges.
Export: MP3 and WAV vs M4B with chapters
Wondercraft's help center lists downloads as MP3 or WAV, and says free-tier audio carries a watermark. M4B and chapter markers aren't mentioned on its audiobook page or in its download help.
FullCastBook exports an M4B with a marker for every chapter, one MP3 for the whole book, or a ZIP with a file per chapter, so listeners can skip between chapters and stores that want per-chapter files get them directly.
Whichever tool you use, check the store before you sell. ACX's requirements, updated April 15, 2026, prohibit unauthorized text-to-speech and AI narration on Audible, whoever made the audio, and other stores set their own rules.
Cost per finished hour
Wondercraft charges credits per minute of speech: 10 credits a minute, or 20 in its Parrot and Director modes. Creator is $25 a month, or $21 a month paid yearly, for 1,000 credits, so about 100 minutes of standard speech. By our arithmetic, that's about $15 per finished hour on monthly billing and $12.60 yearly. At about 9,300 words an hour, an 80,000-word novel runs roughly 8.6 hours, or around 5,200 credits, which is more than five months of Creator credits. Unused paid credits roll over, and one-off top-ups are available.
On the free side, Wondercraft gives 150 credits, about 15 minutes of speech, and free-tier audio carries a watermark. As a Wondercraft alternative, FullCastBook gives free credits with no card, enough to hear a short sample chapter with your own cast; a full novel needs a paid plan.
FullCastBook counts credits by the characters voiced. Our plans are on the pricing page, and the audiobook cost calculator turns your word count into running time, credits and the plan that covers it.
Which one to choose
Choose Wondercraft if you want your own cloned voice, music and sound effects in the same editor, team review with comments, or a tool that also makes podcasts and video. It suits audio dramas and short productions where a timeline is the point.
Choose FullCastBook as your Wondercraft alternative if the book has many speaking characters you don't want to label by hand, your manuscript is a DOCX or text file, or you need an M4B with chapter markers.
